On June 3rd, 2014 a workshop devoted to the visions of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia development took place at the Karelian Research Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences. It was initiated by the Ministry of the Environment, Finland and organized with the help of the Karelian Research Centre. The workshop in Petrozavodsk was the last one in the series of regional workshops. The aim of the workshop was to identify specific regional priorities for the devel-opment of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia, and that is why the focus was largely on practice-oriented brainstorming sessions. In these sessions the participants discussed the opportunities for environmental, economic and social development of the region, formulated the targets and priority tasks.

The workshop Russian participants represented authorities (Republic of Karelia Ministry of Nature Use and Environment, Regional Protected Areas Directorate), local administrations (Muezersky District, Kostomuksha Municipality), research organizations (Karelian Research Centre and its institutes), protected areas (Kalevalsky National Park and Kostomukshsky Strict Nature Reserve), and mass media. The Finnish participants represented the Finnish Ministry of the Environment, Finnish Environment Institute, Finnish State Forest Authority (Metsähallitus), and the Planpoint consulting company.

The outputs produced by the workshop were discussed at the meeting of the Trilateral (Finland, Norway, Russia) Working Group, which took place at the Karelian Research Centre on June 4, 2014.

IntellGreenBelt project experts took an active part in both the workshop and the WG meeting. The outputs of the workshop will be applied in implementing the IntellGreenBelt project activities related to the elaboration and implementation of sustainable nature use meth-ods and technologies.
